Transparency

I have been enjoying the newly remodeled White House website. I note with relief that it unambiguously places the Vice President in the executive branch. I was pleased to see that under the heading "Civil Rights," the first topic alphabetically on its "Agenda" menu, the Obama administration asserts that it wants to

enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions. These rights and benefits include the right to assist a loved one in times of emergency, the right to equal health insurance and other employment benefits, and property rights.

The new White House blog looks a bit formal. More promising, perhaps, is the slot, so far empty, that looks as if it will soon house the daily reports of the White House press pool.

As for any daily report here, all I have to say is that I was utterly destroyed by Aretha Franklin.

  1. It's really exciting that they got this posted so quickly after the actual inauguration, and that the civil rights portion was so well-crafted.
